Studying phase separation in confinement

چکیده

Cells organize their interior through membrane-bound organelles and membraneless condensates that are formed by liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). The complex process of coacervation is involved in LLPS challenging to study living cells. Hence, studying cell-mimicking synthetic containers can yield valuable insights. Here, we review recent progress with respect (particularly coacervation) artificial compartments, from water-in-oil droplets membranous liposomes. We describe different strategies form control coacervates microconfinements physicochemical biological characteristics. also how itself be used container formation. This highlights the importance vitro coacervate studies for understanding cellular biology designing

Adiabatic phase transformations in confinement

The phase diagram of small one-component particles has been analyzed under conditions of thermal insulation, i.e., conservation of energy. In large isolated systems the absolute stability belongs to heterogeneous states with phase separation. However, for small particles the global stability analysis shows a considerable extension of the single-phase regions into a two-phase zone of the phase d...

Adhesion-induced lateral phase separation of multicomponent membranes: the effect of repellers and confinement.

We present a theoretical study of adhesion-induced lateral phase separation for a membrane with short stickers, long stickers, and repellers confined between two hard walls. The effects of confinement and repellers on lateral phase separation are investigated. We find that the critical potential depth of the stickers for lateral phase separation increases as the distance between the hard walls ...

The nanofluidic confinement apparatus: studying confinement-dependent nanoparticle behavior and diffusion

The behavior of nanoparticles under nanofluidic confinement depends strongly on their distance to the confining walls; however, a measurement in which the gap distance is varied is challenging. Here, we present a versatile setup for investigating the behavior of nanoparticles as a function of the gap distance, which is controlled to the nanometer. The setup is designed as an open system that op...

Existence of Confinement Phase in Quantum Electrodynamics

We show that the four-dimensional U(1) gauge theory in the continuum formulation has a confining phase (exhibiting area law of the Wilson loop) in the strong coupling region above a critical coupling gc. This result is obtained by taking into account topological non-trivial sectors in U(1) gauge theory. The derivation is based on the reformulation of gauge theory as a deformation of a topologic...

Studying Transition From Abelian to Non-Abelian Confinement

The center-stabilized multiflavor QCD* theories formulated on R3 × S1 exhibit both Abelian and non-Abelian confinement as a function of the S1 radius, similar to the Seiberg–Witten theory as a function of the mass deformation parameter. For sufficiently small number of flavors and small r(S1), we show occurence of a mass gap in gauge fluctuations, and linear confinement. This is a regime of con...
